Small, but MIGHTY

Small, but MIGHTY

Big Valley High School is the place to be…we are the mighty, mighty Cardinals.

Rural school districts face many challenges but our Cardinal sports program has proven the size of your school does not limit your success. Here at Big Valley our student athletics have the opportunity to participate in multiple sports. Whether you have played for years or are just starting out in high school sports, there is a place for everyone on the Cardinal teams.

Since switching to 8 Man Football our Cardinals have reach the Evergreen Championships twice. Once as champions in 2014 and once as runner ups in 2015. This year, Head Coach Bryan Gerig has been selected to coach the Lion’s Club All-Star 8-Man Football game at Shasta College. We are proud to host the Lion’s Club All-Star 8-Man North camp here in Big Valley.

JV and Varsity Lady Cards Volleyball powered through the last two seasons. Stephanie Withrow took over coaching double duties by guiding both the varsity and JV teams.

Cardinal Basketball has been exciting in the last few seasons. Packed gymnasiums full of supportive fans have cheered on our Champions. Not only do fans come to watch basketball, but fans are entertained by our K-12 dance teams, Winter Homecoming Court, and Senior Night Recognition. High school classes sponsor cake sales and feeds to help fundraise.

Varsity boys were Evergreen League Champions and our JV girls were Evergreen League Co-Champions. Kellen Gerig was voted league MVP.

Varsity Basketball Head Coach Bob Bertelsen was selected to coach Redding Breakfast Lion’s Club All-Star team at Simpson College with Kellen Gerig and Thomas Dodgen representing Big Valley Cardinals.

Varsity Basketball Head Coach Josh Razmus has been selected to coach the North team with Kayla McCrary representing Big Valley.

Our wrestling team may be small in numbers but not in Champions. Freshman Reagan Dahle was Shasta Cascade League Champion for his weight class and earned his way to the NSCIF Master’s Tournament. This program is growing and we can’t wait to see what’s coming next for our wrestlers.

Our Track team has been coached by Dr. Dan Dahle for over 20 years. Dr. Dahle has guided the varsity track teams to 7 Evergreen League Championship and 5 NSCIF Division 4 Section Titles.

Although we have a strong Baseball team, our league has seen quite a bit of change. The team has earned their way to post-season for the last five years straight. The boys have a great chance at contending for league championship.

Softball is BACK!!! After a three year hiatus, the program is being resurrected. The softball team is having fun helping the school reestablish itself as the once dominate team in the league.

Big Valley athletes are blessed with amazingly supportive parents, staff and community members. Big Valley Boosters provide our teams with uniforms, sports equipment and Cardinal paraphernalia.

We are thankful for the all the volunteers!!!!!!!
